The Company
My client is one of the UKs leading civil engineering contractors, with a current turnover approaching £600 million. The company operates throughout the country and provides a full range of civil engineering activities through a strong regional network of over 20 offices and plant depots. Schemes vary in value but they have the capability to undertake £multi million projects across a broad range of Civils including Marine Works, Water, Highway construction and Infrastructure, Structures and Remediation.
Employees are given as much freedom and involvement as possible in all aspects of a project at the earliest stage. You will be working with an experienced team and be expected to make an instant impact on £multi million contracts! Your skills and knowledge will be challenged but you will always be supported when required.
The Role
They have a requirement for a Quality Assurance Manager for the South West to support and advise area managers, agents and other managers in setting up, implementing and maintaining quality systems for business improvement. The ideal candidate will come from a site background and ideally would have worked their way up to at least agent level. You will be educated to degree level in civil engineering or hold an equivalent qualification. Thorough knowledge of ISO9001 standard and quality systems is required. MICE or similar professional membership would be desirable as well as CQI membership.
Main duties: · Setting a personal example by adopting best practice · Promote quality management ethos, principles and concepts · Promote awareness of the management system and customer requirements · Review of the management system and submission of proposals for improvement · Input to and attendance when required at annual review meeting with director · Verify compliance of systems and management plans with quality standards, regulatory and company requirements · Attend and provide input and guidance at area and system department review meetings · Maintain satisfactory programme of internal quality audits · Assist auditors from external organisations and registration bodies · Provide guidance to managers for quality submissions at pre-qualification and tender stages · Provide guidance to managers in evaluation of vendors when requested · Analyse audit reports, monitor relevant information and provide input to annual systems review · Execute quality audits of selected projects, departments and vendors · Accompany and guide newly qualified auditors on their first audit · Provide technical advice and guidance to managers · Present training in the structured programme maintained by the learning and development manager · Identify areas for improvement, problems encountered and submit to quality manager in agreed format · Identify, communicate and promote best practice · Promote continual improvement throughout the Company · Liaise with project appointed quality engineers and managers · Prepare monthly reports and submit to the company quality manager in agreed format · Carry out other relevant duties from time to time
