Daily duties:

I am working with a main contractor in the Berkshire area who are looking for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join an existing team of passionate and dedicated employees. Depending on size of schemes, the MQS will manage 3 to 6 schemes, each ranging in value from £500k to £60m.
 
Roles and responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the commercial management of a large project or a number of multiple projects, ensuring that all commercial processes and procedures are followed.
  • Ensure works are valued, including any variation thereto, in accordance with the contract and analyses to determine the project True Value.
  • Ensure costs are managed and ensuring subcontract accruals and liabilities are properly assessed to determine True Cost. Works in collaboration with the site team to maximise value and minimise cost. 
  • Ensure the project procurement schedule is maintained. 
  • Responsible for the procurement of subcontractors on agreed terms.
  • Maintains the project risk and opportunity schedule, ensuring that risks are mitigated and opportunities realised.
 
 Personal specification:
  • Experience of managing teams of Senior Quantity Surveyors and multiple projects, ranging in value and type of scheme
  • Suitable Commercial experience in Construction projects, including cost and value reconciliations.
  • Experience of identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities
  • A good understanding of current Health & Safety legislation

Quantity Surveyor

A highly respected, family owned construction company are currently looking for a Project Quantity Surveyor to join the team. The role is site based in West London, but there may be times when you are based in the regional office at Theale. The ideal person will have education and commercial office experience.    
     
Roles and responsibilities:
  • Pre-start reviewing design, contract and cost plan allowances with team
  • Attending and contributing to design team and client project meetings
  • Take off BQ's from drawings and specifications (must be competent to do this for all packages from groundworks through to finishes)
  • Preparing and sending out tender packages, negotiating orders with trades and putting together subcontract orders
  • Carrying out site measures and valuations again subcontractor applications including issuing payment and withholding notices
  • Preparing client applications and variation accounts
  • Preparing and maintaining the procurement schedule and warranty tracker.
  • Managing and supporting any junior staff if applicable to site
  • Preparing monthly CVR report to run through and agree with the visiting Commercial Manager
 
Personal specification:
  • Someone who has recently had sole project responsibility
  • £17m project - larger scale project experience is needed
  • Commercial office experience
  • Refurbishment and demolition experience
