Service Improvement _ Knowledge Management Lead/Manager - 16

LP/HQ00032675
£ 442.57 - £ 442.57 per day
Description:
Dstl have introduced new knowledge management (KM) tools into general use primarily collecting data and information together in one place (K drive) broadly consisting of project technical areas, trials data and technical asset registers; in addition the tools have now also been rolled out on our classified networks. The Electromagnetic Protection Group has a strategy for using the K drive and is centring navigation of this using Technical Capability Principal Wiki pages. This approach has been briefed to the Group and is being adopted for current projects and new data. However, there remains a large amount of legacy data which has enduring value and needs to be identified, categorised and sorted among the new knowledge management tools to protect it and ensure it can be found in future.
The volume of data is such that assistance is required to complete the job in a reasonable timescale, support will be provided from technical leaders in the Group.

The Knowledge Management Advisor will:
- Advise Group staff on KM processes and assist projects to adopt the new tools on both corporate networks;
- Ensure that KM in the Group is carried out according to the KM strategy;
- Assist projects to complete legacy data transfers on the K drive, including conducting the data storage with guidance;
- Liaise between Dstl corporate KM functions and the Group staff regarding new tools and their use.

The Knowledge Management Advisor will need the following skills:
- A working knowledge of Electronic Warfare and Electronic Countermeasures, related concepts and scientific reporting methods in order to assist with legacy data storage given some guidance;
- An understanding of knowledge management principles;
- Ability to support and guide Group staff to follow procedure.

Minimum Requirement:
primarily the K drive consisting of project technical areas, trials data drives and technical asset registers. The tools have now also been rolled out on SNET. EMPG has a strategy for using the K drive and is centring navigation of this using Technical Capability Principal WikiD pages. This approach has been briefed to the Group and is being adopted for current projects and new data. However, there remains a huge amount of legacy data which has enduring value and needs to be identified, categorised and sorted among the new knowledge management tools to protect it and ensure it can be found in future. The obvious people to conduct this work are technical leads but the volume of data is such that assistance is required to complete the job in a reasonable timescale. It is therefore proposed to bring in a Knowledge Management Advisor to encourage and help staff to follow the right practices and to assist with legacy data storage.
Knowledge Management Advisor will need the following skills: - A working knowledge of EW and ECM and EM concepts and scientific reporting in order to assist with legacy data storage given some guidance; - An understanding of knowledge management principles; - Able to support fairly senior people to follow procedure.
