Description:
To lead and manage the resources to deliver engineering outputs to enhance capability and reputation; and to maintain standards and improve the quality of it's products, services and advice to customers. To lead and influence the development of work plans, including identification of improvements to systems, capabilities and/or process. To use existing and emerging engineering practice to lead the delivery of the work plans, which improve systems and products and provide advice and services for the benefit of customers. To lead and manage the generation and presentation of documentation and reports internally and externally in order to meet the needs of the customer, including; maintaining capability, integrity, standards; and/or communicating advice and knowledge and/or promoting reputation. To lead and provide engineering advice to other team members to improve the effectiveness and to manage resources of the team. To carry out continuing professional development in line with current and future needs. 

1. Duties/Tasks: 
a. The provision of Subject Matter Expert (SME) support to major projects, delivery teams, and other clients on the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of low voltage equipment/systems incl. those in hazardous areas (i.e. potentially explosive areas); 
b. Incident/accident investigations and, where necessary, the preparation of Safety Alerts; 
c. The review and update of technical standards, policy and guidance documents to support electrical equipment and systems; 
d. Support to the MOD's Senior Authorising Authority (Electrical) in managing it's safe system of work (SSoW) for electrical systems including: assessment of prospective Authorising Engineers; assurance activities, and drafting of JSP 375 Pt2 Vol 3 Chapter 3 (MOD's electrical SSoW). 
e. Support the delivery of Future Delivery Instructure Systems, including schedule analysis, tender appraisal, and contractor assessment. 
f. The review of electrical systems, equipment, and installations (e.g. BS7671 and assoc. guidance, BS EN 60079, etc.) 


2. Functional Competencies: 
a. Demonstrable knowledge and experience of low voltage systems provided in buildings (incl. distribution, generation, UPS, and renewable systems), and in potentially explosive atmospheres throughout the systems lifecycle. 
b. Demonstrable knowledge of the hazards associated with electricity and the principles of protection of electrical equipment and systems in potentially explosive atmospheres, and in the management of electrical systems of work incl. MOD's safe system of work for electricity (JSP 375 Pt 2 V3). 
c. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office

1st Degree in Electrical Engineering or equiv. 

Chartered or Incorporated Electrical Eng. with membership of a professional Institution/Institute appropriate to electrical engineering

  • In depth knowledge of some of the software delivery methodologies including Waterfall/V model, agile, lean, incremental.
  • Proven and demonstrable experience of producing high quality Test Documentation, Test Reports and MI.
  • Proven and demonstrable experience of driving test efficiency and effectiveness through solid testing principles.
  • Self-starter with the ability to take ownership of work, whilst demonstrating a tenacity to pursue problems to resolution and the confidence to challenge thinking and suggest novel approaches to problems.
  • Strong problem investigation and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to analyse and resolve technical issues around Software installation.
