Immigration Lawyer - 16945

£ 34.23 - £ 34.23 per hour
The GLD Immigration Teams are responsible for the successful conduct of immigration public law cases. The primary task of the successful candidate will be to successfully manage their own caseload of public law challenges to Government immigration decisions.  
Main Duties/Responsibilities
The GLD Immigration Teams require an experienced litigation lawyer to conduct their own demanding caseload of immigration cases.  The successful candidate will be given extensive responsibility for their own cases with appropriate supervision after a period of induction.  Developed experience of litigation case handling and an ability to work independently and under pressure are essential.  Drafting pleadings and advices forms a substantial part of the work and good written skills are also an important requirement of the role.  Substantive advocacy is not required though opportunities to use advocacy skills are available for suitably qualified and experienced people.  
Outputs/Deliverables to be achieved
Following an induction period, the successful candidate will be expected to take responsibility for their own caseload subject to supervision. Substantive written work will be routinely checked for the first three months and it is expected that the successful candidate's day to day work should not require routine checking by the end of this period. By this stage the successful candidate should have displayed effective case working skills including in communication, drafting and planning to meet case deadlines. The successful candidate should be seen to be working effectively with clients and colleagues and be displaying a positive and helpful attitude in the conduct of their work. The effective candidate should be meeting their chargeable hours target within a few weeks of starting work.
Skills/Experience required
  • Litigation experience is essential
  • Public law experience is desirable
  • Good organisational skills are essential
  • Effective team working and client care skills are essential
  • An ability to work proactively and independently with appropriate supervision is essential
Minimum Requirement: Fully qualified solicitors or barristers with public law experience. 3+ years ideally and comfortable with high volume of cases. Public sector experience and strong grounding in public law in general is highly desirable.
