Platform and Infrastructure Engineer

£ 35000.00 - £ 45000.00 per annum
Platform & Infrastructure:
  • Linux Experience, ideally CentOs or Redhat
  • Scripting (Bash, Shell, Python) or other programming language (C or C++)
  • Networking - how networks work, design, Cisco qualifications, firewalls
  • Continuous Integration (technologies like Puppet, Foreman, Ansible, Jenkins, Git, Stash, BitBucket)
  • Platforms (technologies like vSphere, VMWare, Docker, hardware servers, switches)
  • Big Data (technologies like Kafka, Flume, Spark, Scala, Hadoop, HDFS, Zookeeper, Zeppelin)
You must be a hands-on engineer and be able to build and configure virtual servers from scratch.
As a final note we are after people who want to cover a range of the above, so:
  • We aren't after people who want be out-and-out programmers or network engineers.
  • We aren't after support engineers who can log tickets and follow processes as their primary role
  • We are after people who enjoy the DevOps/Agile way of developing systems - fast paced, lean, fortnightly sprints, ever evolving/changing workstacks, ever-evolving technologies
Security Clearance
You will be required to undergo high levels of Security Clearance for our roles, so you must be a British national and not worked outside the UK in the last 10 years.

We are looking for individuals that can leverage their extensive technical experience to provide 1st class support for our obligatory platforms. We need you to use industry best practice in all aspects of support and take ownership of all issues till resolution.
In particular the role holder is responsible for: -
  • Leading in the maintenance and in life support of obligatory systems to ensure compliance against relevant legislation
  • Use Incident, Problem & Change management best practises
  • Transitioning new service into support following VV&T and end user acceptance processes.
  • Technical writing and production of support documentation, deployment plans and procedures
  • Leading and leveraging the experience of the relevant professional communities to ensure knowledge sharing extends beyond the functional boundary of the role.
  • Lead and contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Building close working relationships with other teams including those off shore.
  • Liaising with internal, external and third-party suppliers.
  • Focus on the overall customer experience.
  • Provide out of hours on-call support
  • Occasional travel within the UK and abroad.
  • Proven track record in the operational and technical support environments.
  • Experience of application support including monitoring solutions
  • ITIL v3 foundation or above
  • Technical knowledge of the Linux & Windows operating systems
  • Experience in support and configuration of IP networks
  • A self-starter and able to operate under pressure to prioritise and deliver solutions
Desirable Skills & Experience:
  • Good understanding of telephony and mobile networks
